Polyester and Feather Pillow Laundering
Polyester and feather pillows may be washed in an
automatic washer if the label says "washable". A front
loading type allows the pillows to move more freely with
less wear or lumping. Wash 2 pillows at a time, or
balance one with heavy bath towels. Use warm water and
detergent. In top-loading washer, push pillows under
water until they fill with water, and turn over once or
twice during washing as they tend to float up on the
surface. If heavily soiled, soak 15 minutes before wash
cycle. Wash 4-8 minutes, using regular agitation and spin
speeds. Rinse thoroughly, 3 rinses.
Dry in automatic dryer at low setting; they take a
long time to dry. Stop dryer periodically and shake
pillows for more even drying. Or dry outdoors on a warm,
breezy day. Shake and punch several times during drying
to fluff up filling. Or hang pillows in a warm room with
a fan blowing on them. Pillows must be completely dry to
prevent mildew.
