Care of Plastic Microwave Cookware
General Information
The market for plastic microwave utensils is
constantly changing. The best advice is to read the
label.
Care
Use only for microwaving unless label specifically
says can be used for conventional or convection cooking.
Read label and follow directions and cautions. All
plastics do not have the same ability to stand high
cooking temperatures; all microwave cooking tasks are not
the same; some plastics cannot stand high temperatures
reached in cooking high sugar or high fat foods.
Cleaning
All microwave-safe cookware can be washed in the
dishwasher, but follow manufacturer's label or guide
instructions on where to place it--top rack only, or
either rack. Or wash by hand in regular mild dishwashing
liquid. Never use heavy duty mesh cleaners. If food
remains after washing, use a plastic scrub pad. Never
use scouring powders, scouring pads, or other abrasives.
If stains are left by berries or tomato products,
put into utensil solution of 1 tablespoon chlorine bleach
in 1 cup water (never any stronger!) and soak 1-2
minutes. Rinse thoroughly.
